Growing up in the Southern United States made the existence of good homemade BBQ a staple of my diet and moving to London in 2010 left a huge BBQ shaped void in my stomach. It was then I started my quest to find the best BBQ joints south of the river. It’s taken a few years but good ole Southern BBQ has finally made its way to the island. Here are some of the most legit BBQ places I’ve found in London to date.
This is the epitome of Southern American BBQ. It actually feels like you’ve step across continents and landed in the deep South. The walls are covered with college football memorabilia and the drink menu offers unlimited refills on homemade sweet iced tea. And yes, I asked and the sugar is added before the tea cools and ice is added making it the only proper glass I’ve found in London! The tea isn’t the only thing to write home about, as the food menu is chock-full of every BBQ essential from pulled pork to beef brisket. Combine your meat of choice with three satisfying sides and you’ll leave feeling pleasantly plump and cured of any homesickness. And don’t forget to ask for a glass of sweet iced tea to go!
Location : Hoxton Square. Soho. Clapham North. Nottingham.

2) The Joint
This fabulous find might just be the best pulled pork sandwich I’ve ever eaten. The Joint offers a simple menu of traditional BBQ, Asian pulled pork, chicken sandwiches served in a homemade potato bun, beef brisket, and baby back ribs. And as if the sandwiches didn’t steal the show, wait until you try the sides! These are totally worth splurging for! The ribs simply fall off the bone and the favor most definitely will leave you wanting more.

3) Bodean’s
When I first moved to London Bodean’s was my only go-to when it came to Southern BBQ. This restaurant was pumping out pulled pork sandwiches, beef brisket, chicken mac and cheese and so much more before it was cool! I’ve tasted a lot of mac and cheese in the city and I still stand by my claim that Bodean’s by far has the most legit offering you’ll find. The best thing about this choice is that there is probably a restaurant near you! So, if you’re looking for a quick fix at a great price, look no further than your local Bodean’s!
Location : Balham. Clapham Common. Fulham. Old Street. Soho. Tower Hill. Covent Garden. Muswell Hill.
4) The Big Easy
If it’s Southern seafood you’re craving, The Big Easy won’t leave you disappointed! On Tuesdays they offer an all-you-can-eat Shrimp deal for only £20pp and Shrimp Tuesday isn’t the only thing going on at The Big Easy during the week. They also offer The Big Pig Gig of unlimited BBQ and a 2 pint stein of beer on Mondays and unlimited fajitas on Wednesday. Between the hopping atmosphere and the good eats, you’re bound to leave feeling full and satisfied.
Location : Covent Garden. Chelsea. Canary Wharf.
